Best week ever...

Since Michelle came home from her hospital visit in May I just knew things were not right. Countless ER trips. Many pediatrician trips, blood work, phone calls galore and still no answers.

It was frustrating. I was frustrated. So was my husband. We snapped a few times at each other. I wanted nothing more than to tell everyone "I told you so" when the Dr came and told us what I already knew.
Instead I stepped back and embraced the situation. She's here, we caught it quickly and she's smiling.

As hard as those 8 days were, we made it through it. She came home faster than last time. There was no 21 day stay and then see what they wanted to do. We had answers right away. I look back and remember her first infection. How sick she was days before I took her to that appointment.

The crying, the vomiting, the way she slept all the time. The countless doctors appointments for them to just "reassure" me that she has colic and to get used to it. This time they took blood. This time they asked more questions. This time they still missed it until I just PUSHED. I got
mad and I got loud and actually called a nurse a dimwitt because she said Michelle looked to good.

This is from the night before I took her in. 10 minutes after the last phone call to the Neurosurgeon to say her listen she has this huge "bubble" on her incision i don't think it looks just right. His response was is there 2 little white dots, yes, well it's probably her shunt stitches came undone we will need to see her in clinic this week call for an appointment. Hmmm not so much. After 15 times of getting up and her complaining of belly pain each and every time and she still had a fever I was SO done and off to the ER we went.

She does look great, she looks amazing here! But guess what after great amounts of blood work a CT scan and some X-rays tests revealed her shunt was not working. Hmm I wonder why??? Grr.. I still get flustered just thinking about what they told us.

So after a few days of just laying around doing nothing at all other than trying to explain to a 3 year old "honey your hips can't leave the bed" we get a new shunt! And a happy 3 year old too! And then the next day they say hey who wants to go home?? Who wouldn't say yes? Everytime from here on out I WILL follow my instincts further. This time I WILL NOT take she looks "ok" for an answer. This time I WILL NOT let someone else tell me im overreacting when I know im not.

Im happy to say Michelle is back to driving me nuts. Her PICC line is out and her antibiotics have been stopped. She will see the Neurosurgeon in a few days and will return to school when it starts again! :)
